We are pleased to once again have our collaboration with Stormbreaker Brewing available. Beginning in 2017, Stormbreaker began brewing a mid-winter whiskey wash for us. The recipe comes from their flagship beer Mississippi Red. In 2018, they followed up with an imperial version of their beer called Good…Not Great that won a Gold Medal at the World Beer Cup in 2018.
In the lead up to the whiskey project, we talked about creating something that would have some nice malt character, but also have a little spice to balance it out. So Dan, Rob, and Tyler took their Imperial Red recipe and added rye. Even as it came off the still, it tasted great, and I knew we had something that, with age, would be fantastic. And luckily, we have repeated this project annually ever since.
We call this whiskey Barnstormer Imperial Red, a Straight Malt Whiskey.
For the 2022 release, we bottled 287 750 ml. bottles. This one has aged 4 years (last year’s release was aged 3 years) and we find it the best yet!
For these special releases, we asked Tommy Hood Creative to come up with a label that combines elements of Stone Barn and Stormbreaker. We think it fits the whiskey and the collaboration perfectly, and is a fun departure from our usual label style.
